A village in Dhaka district, the capital of Bangladesh. The distance of the village from Dhaka city is about forty kilometers. The name of the village is Sheoratali. Meghnad Saha was born in this village 112 years ago today. His date of birth is October 8, 1893. Their father's name is Jagannath Saha and mother's name is Bhubaneswari Devi. He was the fifth of five daughters and three sons. The third of the sons.
Meghna was born on a stormy night in Ashwin. Born in Jharjanjha, Grandmother Varun named her grandson 'Meghnad' in remembrance of the deity. Meghnad later changed the last letter of his name. Perhaps Michael Madhusudan Dutt's famous poem 'Meghnadabadh' has influenced him.
Meghnad was a healthy strong child. As a child, he used to swim in boats, sail, and hang out with his friends.
The environment there was not conducive to education. Jagannath gave his eldest son Jayanath the opportunity to learn English. But the eldest son could not pass the entrance exam. So Jagannath thought he would not teach other boys to read anymore. When you grow up, put them in the grocery store.
Meghnad had to sit in the shop as soon as the lesson on caste was over. Besides, he had to go to different markets to sell things for three days. Dad also lived with. Meghnad walks to the shop with umbrella on his head, food, books in hand, this was a very familiar scene in Sheoratli village.
Nevertheless, Meghnad was admitted to primary school at the age of seven. Among the teachers there are Shashibhushan Chakraborty and Jatin Chakraborty. They were amazed at the extraordinary memory and talent of Meghna! Meghnad was very interested in everything. He did not forget what he learned. The teachers had a special interest in him so that he could continue his studies. He used to get up very early in the morning and sit down to read Meghnad. He maintained this habit from childhood till adulthood. If it was too late to wake up one day, he would hold his mother's lap and sit crying. The same situation even if you don't get a slate, pencil or book. In the regional language, therefore, Meghnad was called 'Kandune'.

Primary school is over. The teachers came to his father. Meghnad has to be admitted to high school. There is no high school system in Sheoratli village. Meanwhile, father Jagannath did not have the financial means to leave his son somewhere far away. Towards the end Barada Jayanath came forward. He persuaded his father.

At that time there was an English school of higher learning in the south of Dhaka district. There was a middle English school in Shimulia. Meghnad was admitted there. He lived in a doctor's house. Food was provided free of cost. Of course, the condition was that he had to help with the housework. The beginning is the hard life of Meghna. He had to do a lot of work after returning from school. I had to wash the clay and clean the house. Yet no one could shake him from his resolve.Later he remembers those days again and again. "He would never have been a great scientist without this help at the beginning of his student life," he said.Meghnad used to study at Shyamaprasad Middle High School in Shimulia. Here he came in contact with a few ideal teachers. Among them, the name of Prafulla Kumar Chakraborty, a mathematics teacher, is particularly noteworthy.

At the end of the week he would walk seven miles home. This habit he maintained till the last day of his life.He was the first in Dhaka district to pass from middle school with a scholarship - in 1905 AD. Admitted to Dhaka Collegiate School. The amount of scholarship was four rupees per month. Besides, grandfather used to give five rupees and Dhaka Vaishya Samiti used to give two rupees. With this eleven rupees he used to eat for the whole month.Meghnad came to Dhaka Collegiate School and fell into a larger background. He came in contact with various types of wise people. Here he got Nikhil Ranjan Sen, Professor of Applied Mathematics, Calcutta University as a classmate. In the same year that he was admitted to the Dhaka Collegiate School, Bangladesh was partitioned on Curzon's orders. This order of partition of Bengal divided Bangladesh in two. In protest of this order for the partition of Bengal, the fire of revolt was kindled all over the country. The fire spread to remote villages like Shimulia.

One day Chhotalat Fuller came to visit Dhaka Collegiate School. The boys decided they would boycott the class. Meghnad also joined the movement. However, the result of this boycott was not good. He was expelled from school. Scholarships were also closed.
This time he was admitted to Kishorilal Jubilee School. This is a private school. He also attended a Bible class at the Baptist Mission in Dhaka. He became the first among the students of all classes in Bengal in the general competitive examination. As a reward, he received a large printed Bible. Received a cash prize of one hundred rupees.

However, learning this language came in handy in his future life.

He was the first in chemistry and arithmetic. This time the metropolis Kolkata has called him. After passing Intermediate, he got admission in B.Sc class in Presidency College with Honors in Mathematics. It was accompanied by physics and chemistry. Scholarship money was his only resource then. There was absolutely no financial comfort. This is how his student life was spent.
The faculty he received at Presidency College inspired him. Got multiple accomplished students as classmates. I was introduced to many people. Satyendranath Bose and others.
Professor Jagadish Chandra Bose taught Physics in the Presidency, Prafulla Chandra Roy in Chemistry, Professor DN Mallick in Mathematics and CV Kalish.

After being admitted to Presidency College, he spent two years in a Hindu hostel. Then he moved to the mess. In 1913, he finished second in the first class and graduated. Satyendranath was the first.
After that he got admission in MSc class in Applied Mathematics in Presidency College. Satyendranath was first in that test too, he was second. This time he has to enter his career. He once thought that he would sit for the Indian Finance exam. But he was not allowed to sit for the test. It is said that the revolutionaries have contact with him. So he can never be placed in this high position.
Maybe it's better, otherwise we would have found a skilled administrator, Meghnad, where the scientist Meghnad would have been lost.

Soon after, we got to see Meghnad as a professor. At that time, due to the tireless efforts of Ashutosh Mukherjee, Calcutta University was slowly growing. Meghnad joined there. The beginning is his enthusiastic move in the larger arena. This is Meghnad Saha. He spent his whole life as a scientist. Has done basic research in various fields of science.
